
Mis-delivery (email)
Email mis-delivery is a common cause of data breaches. This user error can occur when a user inadvertently sends an email containing sensitive data to the wrong recipient. Mis-delivery errors can also occur when the recipients of bulk emails have their names and email addresses exposed to other parties on the list. This occurred in 2015 when an employee of a London-based NHS clinic specialising in HIV care inadvertently send a bulk email newsletter using the “To” field instead of the “Bcc” field of their email application.
